Carrying tales and legends,
Captain Cook’s fleet of sails
rode the monsoon tides
of the South Pacific,
anchoring in Australia’s winding bays
on a radiant autumn afternoon.

Tides rise and fall, stars shift with time—
tales unfold like paintings,
legends linger like riddles.
The captain’s sails lie settled,
while modern sails rise anew;
and from them, music flows,
drifting across blue seas and skies.

** 1768年庫克船長 ( Captain James Cook ) 率領船隊奮進號 ( Endeavour ) 自英國出發。1769年10月到達紐西蘭，考察紐西蘭南北二島，并命名南北两島間的海峽為「 Cook Strait 」。後來，紐西蘭最高的山也名為 Aoraki / Mt. Cook。1770年4月19日到達澳州大陸的東南端， 8月21日抵達澳洲最北端，并宣稱澳州為英國佔領地，命名為新威爾士 ( New Wales )。8月23日離開澳州，繼續往太平洋西去。1779年進行第三次航行太平洋時，喪命於夏威夷。庫克船長當年在澳州登陸的地方，已開闢為 Botany Bay National Park.

In 1768, Captain James Cook set sail from Britain aboard the Endeavour, leading his fleet into the vast Pacific. In October 1769, he arrived in New Zealand, charting and exploring both the North and South Islands, naming the strait between them Cook Strait. Later, the nation’s highest peak would also bear his name—Aoraki / Mount Cook. On April 19, 1770, Cook reached the southeastern tip of the Australian continent. By August 21, he had landed at its northernmost point, claiming the land for Britain and naming it New Wales. Two days later, he departed westward across the Pacific. During his third voyage in 1779, he met his end in Hawaii. Today, the site where he first landed in Australia has become Botany Bay National Park.

The Sydney Opera House, with its form like a sailboat moored in a sheltered bay, unfurls its graceful white sails, catching the gentle sea breeze, gliding across a sea of blue. It is a perfect fusion of music and architecture, a living interpretation of Goethe’s reflection: “Music is liquid architecture; Architecture is frozen music.”

雪梨歌劇院是一座世界聞名的建築傑作，其獨特的外型彷彿展開的帆船，漂浮於藍天碧海之間，成為澳洲最具代表性的地標之一。由丹麥建築師約恩·烏松（Jørn Utzon）設計，整體結構融合現代主義與自然意象，展現出動態與詩意的美學。歌劇院的屋頂由多個曲線殼片構成，猶如貝殼或蓮花瓣，在陽光下閃耀如瓷，隨著天色與海光變幻呈現不同風貌，營造出和諧的視覺節奏。其建築不僅技術上創新，更在藝術上引發共鳴，將結構與美感融合得淋漓盡致。內部空間則以木質結構與優雅的幾何設計，營造出溫暖且莊嚴的氛圍，成為音樂與戲劇的殿堂。雪梨歌劇院象徵著人類勇於想像與實踐夢想的精神，其建築之美，超越時代，令人驚嘆不已。2007，雪梨歌劇院成為聯合國教科文組織世界文化遺產。

The Sydney Opera House is a world-renowned masterpiece, designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, that embodies both modernism and nature—a symphony of movement and poetry. Its roof, composed of curving shells, resembles open sails, lotus petals, or sea-washed shells, gleaming like porcelain in the sun, shifting with the light and sea, creating a rhythm of harmonious vision. Not only is it a marvel of engineering, but it is also a triumph of art—a space where structure breathes beauty. Inside, warm wooden forms and elegant geometry create a sacred atmosphere, a sanctuary for opera and drama alike. The Opera House stands as a beacon of human imagination and the courage to realize dreams. Its beauty transcends time, leaving all who behold it in awe. In 2007, the Sydney Opera House was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

** 「A thing of beauty is a joy for ever」 ( 美的事物是永恆的喜悅 ) 是英國詩人濟慈（ John Keats，1795-1821）的詩句。與拜倫、雪萊並稱為浪漫主義第二代詩人。1821濟慈死於旅遊羅馬途中，年僅25。墓碑上沒有他的名字，卻刻著他的遺言: 「Here lies one whose name was written in water」。一位把名字寫在水上的詩人。

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever” is a famous line by the English poet John Keats (1795–1821), a leading figure of the second generation of Romantic poets, alongside Byron and Shelley. In 1821, Keats died while traveling in Rome, at the young age of twenty-five. His name does not appear on his tombstone—only his final words are inscribed: “Here lies one whose name was written in water.” A poet who inscribed his name upon the water.

During a visit to the Sydney Opera House, when the grand performance hall stood quiet and empty, Grace led everyone in singing ” Formosa Hymn. ” The voices echoed through the hall, stirring deep feelings of homeland, family, and friendship.

** 鄭智仁 (1951–, 台湾彰化二水鄉人) ，作詞作曲家和演唱家，是著名的男性生殖醫學專家，獲有多項發明專利，兩度獲選母校中山醫學院傑出校友。2002年以作品「天頂的星」榮獲第13屆金曲獎傳統藝術音樂作品類—「最佳作詞人」及「最佳演唱人」; 同年獲高雄市政府文藝獎—「終身成就獎」。鄭智仁的歌謠，文詞優美、旋律感人，深具本土意識與人文關懷，他的許多作品被收錄在教科書。鄭智仁一直秉持:「音樂家有責任去喚醒他成長的土地上的靈魂」的信念。獲選2000 年美國關懷台灣基金會「奉獻獎」，其獲獎的評價是: 鄭智仁是本世紀具有深遠影響的台灣歌謠作家。

Chih-Jen Cheng (1951– ), a native of Ershui Township in Changhua, Taiwan, is a lyricist, composer, and singer, as well as a renowned specialist in male reproductive medicine. He holds multiple invention patents and has twice been honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by his alma mater, Chung Shan Medical University. In 2002, his work “The Star Above the Sky” won the 13th Golden Melody Award in the Traditional Arts and Music category, receiving both “Best Lyricist” and “Best Vocalist” honors. That same year, he was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Kaohsiung City Government. Cheng’s songs are noted for their elegant lyrics and touching melodies, deeply rooted in local identity and humanistic concern. Many of his compositions have been included in school textbooks. He has consistently upheld the belief that “a musician has the responsibility to awaken the soul of the land where he was raised.” In 2000, he was selected by The American Care Taiwan Foundation as the recipient of the “Dedication Award.” The citation described Chih-Jen Cheng as “a Taiwanese songwriter of profound and lasting influence in this century.”
