[New York News] The 2026 Taiwan Children’s Festival will take place on Sunday, May 17, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Taiwan Center in Flushing, New York (137-44 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY).

The second annual festival is jointly organized by the National Taiwan Normal University Alumni Association in the U.S.A. (NTNUAA), the Formosa Association of Overseas Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA), led by Instructor Ya-Lin Weng, and Taiwan YES! (Taiwan Night Market), led by Council Member of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, R.O.C. (Taiwan), James Chuang. The event is also co-organized by numerous Taiwanese community organizations, including the Taiwan Center, the Taiwan Center Senior Center, the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women (Greater New York Chapter), the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women (New Jersey Chapter), the Asian Future Foundation, the United Taiwanese Alumni Associations of Greater New York, the North America Pingtung Association, the Hakka Association of New York, the Taiwanese American Association of New York, PS120Q PTA, and Hello Taiwan, among others.

The event is spearheaded and coordinated by Chief Planner and President Alpha Chi. The entire organizing team consists of dedicated volunteers, demonstrating the community’s strong cohesion and deep commitment to cultural preservation. FASCA youth volunteers will serve as game station leaders, guiding children through activities in a “big kids leading little kids” environment—encouraging learning through play and allowing participants to experience the beauty of culture in a joyful setting.

Centered on Taiwanese folk games and cultural experiences, the festival invites families from New York, Long Island, and New Jersey to join in the celebration. The event will feature a wide range of classic games and cultural exhibits, including glove puppetry, pinball-style games, bottle ring toss, darts, ring toss, fishing games, table tennis, traditional wooden molds (kueh molds), sticky ball throwing, as well as paper folding and costume drawing activities. These offerings allow both children and adults to experience the vibrancy and warmth of Taiwanese culture through laughter and hands-on participation.

Many artists and community leaders are also enthusiastically contributing to this event, including Alpha Chi, Lily Lee, Ya-Lin Weng, James Chuang, Wan-Rong Liang, Sam Lin, Tom Su, Ming-Yi Dai, I-Min Chen, Jiunn Chen, Jennifer Lin, Jason Peng, Tsung-Cheng Wang, Nina Edwards, Yueh-Mei Chu, Borcheng Hsu, Christine Lee, Monsong Chen, Andrew Wang, Winston Liao, Hui-Ping Lee, Daniel Chang, Hsi-Chang Chiu, Wen-Jui Hsu, Chin-Piao Lee, Jin-Lan Lo, Jacy Chen, Yu Lee, Frances Su, Eva Hung, Darren Yang, Diana Lee, Joyce Yang, Helen Wang, Debbie Chen, Mei-Yun Wang, Yu Chang, HuiChin Wang, Dr. Morrison (Daily Benefit), Amanda Ma, Tseng Chang Fann, and Shiow-Jen You, among others, all contributing rich and diverse creativity and cultural depth to the festival. Among the highlights, the Taiwanese glove puppetry exhibition and guided tour curated by Katherine Chi will lead participants to gain a deeper understanding of the historical context and aesthetic significance of this traditional hand puppet art. The exhibition space is personally designed and handcrafted by architect George Cheng, with stage production sponsored by the Taiwan Center, fully showcasing the refined craftsmanship and unique charm of Taiwanese artistry.

The event will feature a stamp-collection activity—participants who collect eight stamps from game stations will be able to redeem a special gift. A variety of Taiwanese snacks will also be available on-site. Each ticket includes redemption for bubble tea, shaved ice, sandwiches, juice, and bottled water, while supplies last.

This is not only a hands-on folk games experience, but also a vibrant cultural exchange event. Through games as a universal language that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries, the organizers hope to foster interaction among families of diverse backgrounds, promote a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture, and build meaningful connections through shared joy.

Families across the Greater New York area who are interested in Taiwanese culture are warmly invited to attend. Through parent-child participation and appreciation of Taiwanese arts, the event aims to further deepen cultural exchange and strengthen community bonds and a shared sense of identity.

The successful realization of this event would not have been possible without the generous support of joint organizers, co-organizers, supporting organizations, and sponsors. Special thanks to the presidents, leaders, and their teams for their contributions in funding, gifts, and manpower, including the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, the Overseas Community Affairs Council Culture Center in New York, First Bank New York (COO Cheng-Tsang Tsai), the Greater New York Taiwanese Import & Export Association, the Taiwanese PEN Club of Greater New York, the Flushing Central Lions Club, the North America Taiwanese Women’s Association (New York Chapter), the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in New York, Daily Benefit by Dr. Morrison, the Taiwanese American Physicians Society (Greater New York Chapter), the Taiwanese American Medical Cultural Exchange Foundation, China Airlines, EVA  Air, CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice, Tianhe Buddhist Temple, as well as the generous support of Chou Hsiu-Chuan, Sun Ai-Hua, Lu Mei-Hao, Chang Yi-Han, Kuo Li-Ching, Huang Kuei-Chu, Chou Ching-Yueh, and Yuan Lin. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the many additional community organizations and individuals who contributed but are not listed here.
