For over a century, we have been trapped in a binary struggle: Nature versus Nurture.
On one side stands Francis Galton, who in 1869—inspired by his cousin Charles Darwin—suggested our fates are written in our blood. His ideas gave birth to eugenics, scientific racism. A dark path that eventually fueled the horrors of the 20th century, and Nobel James Watson was disgraced for it. On the other side stands John Locke, who in 1690–argued that we are blank slates, shaped entirely by our upbringing, our food, our education, our culture, our neighborhoods and our lifestyles. Both sides claimed the truth; both sides used twin studies to “prove” they were right.
But as we enter this new era, we realize that nature and nurture are not rivals. They are two different dialects of the same language: Evolution.
The Ghost in the Machine:
Today, the science of epigenetics reveals a stunning truth: while your DNA sequence is a fixed script, the environment factors act as the director. It can turn a gene expression on or off, rendering a sequence of DNA either a masterpiece or a useless scrap of code.
But my research into longevity suggests we must look even deeper. Evolution isn’t just about biology; it is the fundamental force of the universe. It is the only thing standing against the law of Entropy—the natural tendency of all things to break down and fade away, life is a good example. While thermodynamics tries to pull us toward decay, evolution works in the opposite direction, building better functions and sharper intelligence to counter the slide into the void.
The Currency of Life: Information
Why does the human brain—a mere 2% of our body weight—gobble up 20% of our energy? Because it is the most sophisticated “information processor” in the known universe, like TSMC chips factory requires vast water and electricity.
Every piece of art, every line of code, every melody, every language and every strand of DNA-our life base, is simply information. Whether it is stored as binary bits (0 and 1) in a computer or as chemical bases (A, C, G, and T) in your cells, it is all data. Those are the manifestos for us to monitor and manipulate to ensure smooth life journey in a naro scale. We are now at a point where we can translate between the two. Artificial Intelligence is not just a tool for genetic algorithm; it is the final facilitator of this biological translation. The promise is an unimaginable.
The Verdict:
A healthy life extending to 120 years and beyond is no longer a science-fiction fantasy—it is an evolutionary inevitability. The “Brighter Future” isn’t coming; it is already here.
The philosophical purpose and meaning of our lives are hidden within this “functional information.” We are the architects of our own data and we are the CEO of our own information. To reach that 120-year milestone with AI helping, our immediate task is simple but disciplined: avoid the accidents that end the life story early, quiet the fires of chronic inflammation by proper rest, adequate exercise and calorie restricted diet and balance the sugars and lipids that clog our biological gears.
The information is there. The question is: Are you prepared to read it?
